Only a few minutes drive from Lake Tekapo township is the ultimate snow sport destination for the whole family.

Round Hill ski field was established in 2001 as a dedicated ski field ‘For Mum, Dad and the Kids’. The field has gentle slopes, good snow cover and long undulating runs to ensure enjoyable skiing and snowboarding for all ages. The snow ratings are 20% beginner and 80% intermediate. Skiers and snowboarders who like to get ‘ big air’ over jumps, rollers and box rails are catered for, but there is no scope for extreme descents on this smooth-topped dome.

The field’s location at the south end of the Two Thumb Range in the Mackenzie Country guarantees superb mountain views, including stunning vistas of Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo. The highest point is 1,600 metres at the top of the 1.2 km long Garaventa T-Bar – the longest in the country. There is also a beginner’s poma lift on the lower slopes where the gentle gradients are very safe for first timers. The season runs from June to October. The new snowmaking system guarantees good cover on the slopes. Ski and snowboard hire is available on the field.

Round Hill has built excellent base facilities with an international ski and snowboard school, snow tubing lift and a comfortable day lodge. Teams from the Northern Hemisphere have chosen Round Hill as a ‘summer’ training venue during the months of August and September. A range of good accommodation is available at Lake Tekapo township just 7 km down Lilybank Road. This picture-postcard town has the renowned Church of the Good Shepherd, and the bronze statue of Mackenzie’s dog. These popular tourist attractions are situated on the lakeshore.

Round Hill is a new field whose popularity is assured. Make sure you take an early opportunity to experience the fantastic family fun on ‘The Hill’.
